A 1994 Economic and Social Research Council Report found that couples living together were four times more likely to separate than married couples. However, this study did not distinguish between couples with children and couples without, so a wide range of circumstances cold be aggregated together in the results. For example, young cohabiting couples such as students may well not be committed to a longer-term relationship. Also, the stronger position of women in cohabiting relationships could mean they are less willing to tolerate a male partner who is not participating in the relationship on an equal basis. If increasing numbers are choosing to cohabit because of increased instability in marriage, another option that is increasing is for people to live alone. However, a rapidly growing proportion are single people of either sex who are opting live alone. It would seem that increasing numbers of young professionals are opting for independent living. They may have relationships, but they desire to live alone rather than cohabit or marry. Their work can involve long hours and commitment which means that childrearing becomes impossible and in any case they questions the necessity of having children in an insecure and uncertain world. He suggests that a person on their own may, in fact, have more contact with a wider network of relations and kin than the conventional married couples, whose coupledom could be a more isolated experience. Photosynthesis Investigation to find effects of distance of a light source from pond weed has on the amount of oxygen produced Photosynthesis All green plants need to be able to make their own food.They do this by a process called photosynthesis.For photosynthesis to occur they need sunlight energy.This energy is absorbed by a green pigment called chlorophyll,which is mainly found in the leaves.This energy then combinEs with water molecules (from the soil) and carbon dioxide (from the air).Then as a result of this,a type of sugar is produced .This is called glucose.Also oxygen is made. For my experiment I have chosen to use light distance as my variable.This means that to carry out a fair test everything else must be kept the same during the experiment. Hypothesis I think that as the light source (desk lamp) is moved closer to the pondweed,the rate that oxygen is produced will increase therefore more oxygen willbe produced and also more glucose. I believe this will happen because when the the light source is nearer to the plant more of the plants surface area is coming in to contact with the light from the desklamp therefore more photosynthesis will occur which will mean more oxygen and glucose will be produced. Ethics most commonly know as the rights and wrongs are principles and standards that establish what is know as acceptable conduct within an organization. Organizations have moral and legal duties to implement ethics when developing a strategic plan while considering stakeholders and consumers, they do not want to be lied to or cheated into buying a false product.Unethical companies will use aggressive sales tactics and mischievous ways, of doing usiness to sell, promote and profit from vulnerable consumers. Unethical organizations believe in these tactics not realizing that ethical and honest companies tend to be more profitable, reputable and operate amongst less stress from employees to managerial position. Social responsibilities are Just as important as ethics but pertain to a greater scale; it's an organizations obligation to m ake a positive impact rather than a negative one on society and the environment.An example of a company that overstepped ethical and social responsibility boundaries s the oil and gas company BP p. l. c. In 2010, a massive oil spill broke out in the Gulf of Mexico that was caused by oil drilling conducted by this Company and its key contractors. This oil spill caused the death of eleven individuals and cost the company and its partners tens of billions of dollars in order to contain a blowout of the well, mitigate the damages caused and compensate all the individuals and businesses impacted by the spill. The Telegraph). As a result of this oil spill, the US Government established an Oil Spill Commission hich was put in place to investigate the reasons for this disaster. The report concluded that a number of separate factors contributed to the spill which included oversights and outright mistakes from BP and its contractors, Halliburton and Transocean, however that the underlying rea son was a failure from management (National Commission).Management, in an effort to minimize the loss of returns, made concessions for a series of cost-cutting measures that included the quality of the materials used, short cuts in testing processes and the reliance on fewer esources which ultimately contributed to the oil spill. The Commission also concluded that the overall industry nad deficiencies in its internal controls; decision making protocols, training and corporate culture.As a result, the short falls in this disaster were a combination of oversights and negligence from multiple parties thus extending the ethical and social responsibility among internal and external stakeholders (National Commission). Introduction Like many organizations, our goals are to provide high quality services, employ a highly qualified workforce and maintain a positive bottom line. Many studies exist that describe the positive impact of employee engagement and empowerment on a business.
